North Stafford County
 
Its early residents named Stafford County after Staffordshire, England. Garrisonville and Aquia Harbor, two of the most popular communities within North Stafford County, are located just off Interstate 95 in northern Virginia. I-95 runs a continuous 178 miles through the state and Garrisonville and Aquia Harbor are located west and east of the interstate, respectively. Aquia Harbor is the largest subdivision in the county with more than 6,400 residents. Garrisonville, located alongside Garrisonville Road, is also currently experiencing rapid residential and commercial growth. The Garrisonville and Aquia Harbor areas are home to a number of fine restaurants and plentiful shopping opportunities. For those who prefer to spend their free time outdoors, Pines Campground and the Aquia Harbor Golf Course are both only a short drive away.

Garrisonville and Aquia Harbor, along with the other charming communities within North Stafford County, offer residents easy access to a number of recreational activities. From amusement parks and weekend festivals to biking, boating, fishing, hiking, hunting, running skating and skiing to simply enjoying a relaxing afternoon in one of the many nearby parks, the communities of North Stafford County are a gateway to fun. There are also a number of community-operated youth and adult sports programs available. For those who prefer spectator sports, a number of professional teams can be found throughout the Washington, D.C. area - basketball's Wizards, hockey's Capitals and football's Redskins, to name but a few.

Shopping opportunities are also plentiful within and near the communities of Garrisonville and Aquia Harbor. The Brafferton Shopping Center has 30 stores, while Chatham Square Shopping Center has approximately 15. Other stores such as Home Depot, Petco and Staples are currently being developed and the Potomac Mills Mall is located just north of Stafford.

North Stafford County residents are a part of the Stafford County Public School System and have access to a number of post-secondary institutions. Nearby colleges include Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, the Germanna Community College campus in Fredericksburg, and Rappahannock Community College, with many local campuses. The Woodbridge Campus of Northern Virginia Community College is only 25 miles away and still other Virginia colleges are located throughout the surrounding counties.

When it comes time to travel, North Stafford County is close to both the Dulles International and Reagan National airports. The town of Stafford is planning the construction of its own airport, which would accommodate spillover from the both of the larger airports as well as make traveling easier for local North Stafford County residents.
